Building Forward

1. Build it Forward
® Pay it Forward
® If you build it they will come.  (Field of Dreams)
® Isa 66:1 NIV
(1)  This is what the LORD says: "Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. Where is the house you will build for me? Where will my resting place be?

Psa 1:1-6 NLT
(1)  Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers.
(2)  But they delight in the law of the LORD, meditating on it day and night.
(3)  They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.
(4)  But not the wicked! They are like worthless chaff, scattered by the wind.
(5)  They will be condemned at the time of judgment. Sinners will have no place among the godly.
(6)  For the LORD watches over the path of the godly, but the path of the wicked leads to destruction.

2. Joy should be one of the predominate characteristics of the Christian.
a. Neh 8:10 NIV
(10)  Nehemiah said, "Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is sacred to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the LORD is your strength."
  i. rejoicing: - gladness, joy.
ii. N.T. -  cheerfulness, that is, calm delight: - gladness, X greatly, (X be exceeding)
b. We need to take personal responsibility for our joy.  If we don't have it, we need to encourage ourselves in the Lord.
  i. 1Sa 30:6 KJV
  (6)  And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.
c. When we rejoice in the Lord, when we worship, we restore the joy to our souls.

3. It does not say we are not to hang around with the unsaved, rather that we don’t hang around with sinners.  Who you hang around with is very important, even in the Christian world.  Bitter Christians can defile you!
a. Heb 12:15 NIV
(15)  See to it that no one misses the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.
b. 1Co 5:6 NIV
(6)  Your boasting is not good. Don't you know that a little yeast works through the whole batch of dough?
c. If you hang around with negative people you will find their negativity wearing off on you, if you hang around with positive people, you will find their positive attitude wearing off on you!

4. Three of the ungodly voices that will keep you from moving forward in the new year, and that you need to learn to detect and not react to are:
1) The haunting of your past.
  i. Adjective: haunting
  1. Continually recurring to the mind
  2. Having a deeply disquieting or disturbing effect
  ii. Verb: haunt
  1. Follow stealthily or recur constantly and spontaneously to
  2. Haunt like a ghost; pursue
  3. Be a regular or frequent visitor to a certain place
  iii. Php 3:13 NIV
  (13)  Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead,
2) The naysayers or the mockers around you.
  i. Nehemiah and the rebuilding of the wall around Jerusalem
   (a) Sanballat-a Persian govenor of Samaria (foreigner)
   (b) Tobiah-an Ammonite, an inbred, offspring of Lot's laying with his daughters
   (c) Ashdod-a ravager
3) The fear of your future.
  i. Does God really want to bless me, to have joy and peace in my life.
ii. Remember, don't expect and act in the same old same old, rather believe God for the newness of the Kingdom in your life

5. Often we as Christians sin because we are not believing in what the Lord is saying to us.  To not be moving in faith is sin!
a. Rom 14:23 NIV
(23)  But the man who has doubts is condemned if he eats, because his eating is not from faith; and everything that does not come from faith is sin.
b. Heb 11:6 NIV
(6)  And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

6. The seasons or times that the world goes through should not be the plumb line that we use to measure our success or failure.  Rather if we are planted by the river of God, we will keep fresh, bearing fruit in every season of our lives.
a. Psa 1:3 NLT
(3)  They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.
b. We should not be pulling back in our vision because of the conditions around us, rather we should be advancing and enjoying growth, because he has "endowed us with splendor."

7. The righteous, those who meditate on God's word and make it a part of who they are will  "delight in doing everything God wants them to!"
a. Delight-A feeling of extreme pleasure or satisfaction
b. Delight-are you delighting in what you do.  Are you serving with a heart that is full of thanksgiving, or are you serving out of duty and frustration.

8. Faith says that we will move forward into where God is taking us no matter what comes along.  When we listen to the negative voices around us, they will erode our faith, cause us to live in fear and keep us from going forward.
a. 2Co 5:7 NIV
(7)  We live by faith, not by sight.
b. 1Co 13:12
Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; i  then we shall see face to face. j  Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
c. 2Co 4:18
So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. r  For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
d. 2Ti 1:6-7 NKJV
(6)  Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.
(7)  For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
e. Fear will keep you from the promises that God has made you, whether they be in the victories of your own personal life, or in the corporate victories that he has promised the church.

9. It all comes back to learning to trust God.  To understand that he is watching over us, that he is looking after us no matter what comes along.
a. Psa 1:6 NLT
(6)  For the LORD watches over the path of the godly, but the path of the wicked leads to destruction.
b. Psa 37:1-11 NIV
(1)  Of David. Do not fret because of evil men or be envious of those who do wrong;
(2)  for like the grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away.
(3)  Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.
(4)  Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.
(5)  Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this:
(6)  He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.
(7)  Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.
(8)  Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret--it leads only to evil.
(9)  For evil men will be cut off, but those who hope in the LORD will inherit the land.
(10)  A little while, and the wicked will be no more; though you look for them, they will not be found.
(11)  But the meek will inherit the land and enjoy great peace.

Sermon Notes - Jan. 8, 2012 In This Place I Will Grant Peace
1. We need to learn to trust, strengthen our faith, and walk in God's direction and provision for our lives.
a. Trust
  i. Pro 3:5 NIV
  (5)  Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
b.  Faith
  i. Mat 17:20 NIV
  (20)  He replied, "Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."
  ii. Heb 11:6 NIV
  (6)  And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
c. Direction
  i. Pro 3:6 NIV
   (6)  in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.
d. Provision
  i. Php 4:19 NIV
  (19)  And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.

2. Fear is one of the greatest negative motivators that we must learn to contend with.  It is the opposite of trust and faith, and will keep you out of God's direction and provision.  When we learn to remain in the Love of God, we will overcome our fears.
a. 1Jn 4:16-18 NIV
(16)  And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him.
(17)  In this way, love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment, because in this world we are like him.
(18)  There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
b. “Fear can make us easily imagine things and believe things that are not true. Joseph’s brothers made up a story that had nothing to do with reality. When a person is taken over by fear, his mind does not work properly; he seeks the worst and imagines things that are not real. And in that way, fear produces more fear. The opposite of fear is trust. The one who trusts does not fear. If Joseph’s brothers had trusted him, they wouldn’t have been afraid of having been taken to his house. The one who is afraid of the Eternal does not know Him and does not trust Him. He is love and He is good to all. The one who trusts Him will be delivered from all fear. There are two ways of fearing the Eternal. One expresses reverence, devotion and absolute respect toward Him; the other is being afraid of Him, and they are not the same at all. The remedy against fear is the certainty of the Eternal’s presence. He who knows that the Eternal is with him, does not fear, as it is written: “I will fear no evil for you are with me” (Ps. 23:4b ESV) and “I sought the LORD, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears. (Sal. 34:4 ESV) If the brothers had trusted in the Eternal’s presence they wouldn’t have been afraid.”

3. We can expect much change in the world this year which will cause a lot of fear in man.  There will continue to be much shaking, both in the physical earth and in societies and governments.  This must happen so "that which cannot be shaken will remain", which is the Kingdom of God.
a. Heb 12:22-29 NIV
(22)  But you have come to Mount Zion, to the heavenly Jerusalem, the city of the living God. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly,
(23)  to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the judge of all men, to the spirits of righteous men made perfect,
(24)  to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.
(25)  See to it that you do not refuse him who speaks. If they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, how much less will we, if we turn away from him who warns us from heaven?
(26)  At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, "Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens."
(27)  The words "once more" indicate the removing of what can be shaken--that is, created things--so that what cannot be shaken may remain.
(28)  Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe,
(29)  for our "God is a consuming fire."
b. Don't expect the same old same old, neither in what's happening in the world nor what is happening in your life.
c. 2012 is an election year in the states and with it will come division and turmoil.

4.  The number 12 speaks of family and government.
a. Twelve: Family, the families and tribes of humanity are represented by their 12 leaders. Jacob's family had 12 /leaders/Patriarchs, so did Ishmael's family, Likewise we the Family of the Church have our 12 Disciple apostle leaders.
  i. Genesis 49:28 All these are the twelve tribes of Israel: and this is it that their father spake unto them, and blessed them; every one according to his blessing he blessed them.
ii. Genesis 25:16 These are the sons of Ishmael, and these are their names, by their towns, and by their castles; twelve princes according to their nations.
  iii. Luke 6:13 And when it was day, He called unto Him his disciples: and of them He chose twelve, whom also He named apostles;
b. Twelve is a perfect number, signifying perfection of government, or of governmental perfection. It is found as a multiple in all that has to do with rule.
  i. 12 Patriarchs
  ii. 12 Sons of Israel
  iii. The twelve Apostles.
iv. The twelve foundations in the heavenly Jerusalem.
   (a) The twelve gates.
   (b) The twelve pearls.
   (c) The twelve angels.
  v. The number 12 represents divine authority and appointment, as well as governmental foundation and perfection, and shows completeness. 12 is also used as a signature of Israel. Truth is symbolized by 144, or 12 x 12.

5. We need to wake up, or become aware of the importance of our lives in the kingdom of God.  That we can influence and change the spiritual atmosphere around us.  That we are responsible for releasing the kingdom of God here on earth!
  i. Mat 6:10 NIV
  (10)  your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
  ii. Eph 5:8-21 NIV
  (8)  For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light
  (9)  (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth)
  (10)  and find out what pleases the Lord.
  (11)  Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.
  (12)  For it is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret.
  (13)  But everything exposed by the light becomes visible,
  (14)  for it is light that makes everything visible. This is why it is said: "Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you."
  (15)  Be very careful, then, how you live--not as unwise but as wise,
  (16)  making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.
  (17)  Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is.
  (18)  Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.
  (19)  Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord,
  (20)  always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
  (21)  Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
  iii. Rev 5:9-10 NIV
  (9)  And they sang a new song: "You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation.
  (10)  You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth."

6. Make sure that you are adequately covered.  That you are under the blood, and under the covering that God has provided for us.
a. We need to make sure that we have adequate insurance in the Spirit
b. Dream - beams and trusses (Trust)
c. Properly covered in our families
d. Properly covered in the body of Christ

7. Some areas that we need to allow the Spirit of God to bring into God's governmental order are:
a. Our personal lives.
  i. Become more familiar with and allow the Word to work in our lives.
   (a) Psa 119:105 NIV
   (105)  Nun. Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.
   (b) Heb 4:11-12 NIV
   (11)  Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following their example of disobedience.
   (12)  For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
   (c) We need to learn the Word, Love the Word, LIVE the Word.
   (d) Use the values of the Word as a plumb line and gauge for your life.
   (e) Learn to go to the word to find the answers for life.  Not just general answers, but even specific answers to specific questions.

ii. Seek His will in and for our lives.
   (a) Rom 12:1-2 NIV
   (1)  Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship.
   (2)  Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.
   (b) Expect there to be change in your life.  When we set out to find his will, invariably there will be things happen that will prepare us for changes in our lives.

iii. Watch what you say!  Your tongue is a powerful tool, that can release cursing or blessing.  You have within your words the ability to build your life and the kingdom of God around you, or you can destroy your life and the kingdom around you.
   (a) "Oh be careful little tongue what you say!"
   (b) Jas 3:10 NIV
   (10)  Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be.

b. Our family's lives
  i. Check and make sure husbands that you are properly covering your wife and family, and wives you are remaining under that covering.
ii. Begin to pray in the spirit into those areas of your families lives that are out of order.
   (a) Rom 8:26 NIV
   (26)  In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.
iii. Begin to declare God's goodness and revelation into your life and the lives of your family.
   (a) 2Co 4:13 NIV
   (13)  It is written: "I believed; therefore I have spoken." With that same spirit of faith we also believe and therefore speak,
iv. Do what you can in the natural, then get out of the way and allow God to do what only he can do.

c. How we are effecting society around us.
  i. When the world looks at you, do they see the kingdom?
ii. We should be providing leadership in the world, no matter where we find ourselves.
iii. Leadership does not depend upon being at the top, rather on influencing those around us with Godly responses and direction.
   (a) First with our Godly lives which remain unshaken in the face of adversity
   (b) Second with becoming engaged with those around us, becoming involved
    a) Naaman the Leper's servant girl

8. We need to be very cognitive of the enemies capability to seduce us.  If he can't seduce you in one way he will try to do it in another.  Some of the primary weapons he will use are:
a. Bitterness
  i. Heb 12:13-15 NIV
  (13)  "Make level paths for your feet," so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed.
  (14)  Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.
  (15)  See to it that no one misses the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.
b. Separating people from a healthy body of believers.
  i. Heb 10:23-25 NIV
  (23)  Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.
  (24)  And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.
  (25)  Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
c. Sin
  i. 1Jn 2:16-18 NIV
  (16)  For everything in the world--the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does--comes not from the Father but from the world.
  (17)  The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.
  (18)  Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour.
d. Causing people to put everything else ahead of their walk with God.
  i. Eph 5:11-15 NIV

9. Over all, when we set out to walk in God and with God, we need not fear, but rather can rejoice in the fact that He is the King of kings and Lord of lords.  His desire is to restore His Glory to His House, the church.  One of the primary ways that you can know His Glory is to walk in His Peace.  The peace of God that passes all understanding.
a. Hag 2:3-9 NIV
(3)  "Who of you is left who saw this house in its former glory? How does it look to you now? Does it not seem to you like nothing?
(4)  But now be strong, O Zerubbabel,' declares the LORD. 'Be strong, O Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest. Be strong, all you people of the land,' declares the LORD, 'and work. For I am with you,' declares the LORD Almighty.
(5)  "This is what I covenanted with you when you came out of Egypt. And my Spirit remains among you. Do not fear.'
(6)  "This is what the LORD Almighty says: 'In a little while I will once more shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land.
(7)  I will shake all nations, and the desired of all nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory,' says the LORD Almighty.
(8)  "The silver is mine and the gold is mine,' declares the LORD Almighty.
(9)  "The glory of this present house will be greater than the glory of the former house,' says the LORD Almighty. 'And in this place I will grant peace,' declares the LORD Almighty."
